Nagpur: Recent disciplinary actions have caused a stir among local police officers. SHOs from Jaripatka and Wathoda police stations have faced significant repercussions. SHO Deepak Bhitade from Jaripatka has been transferred to the Special Branch, while Wathoda SHO Vijay Dighe has reportedly been suspended with immediate effect. Inspector Seema Datarakar from Sitabuldi has been appointed to take over Wathoda station. These moves by the Police Commissioner have sent shockwaves through the ranks, with rumors suggesting that more SHOs could face similar actions in the coming days.
The tenure of several SHOs in Nagpur has been a hot topic of discussion lately. On Tuesday, actions were taken against the SHOs of Jaripatka and Wathoda police stations. The catalyst for this was an incident near Dighori Toll Plaza, where a car driven by accused individuals ran over nine members of a poor family sleeping on the pavement, resulting in two fatalities. In response, Police Commissioner Dr Ravinder Singal reportedly suspended Wathoda SHO Vijay Dighe.
Following this, the responsibility of Wathoda police station has been handed over to Inspector Seema Datarakar from Sitabuldi police station. In the incident, the driver and five other accomplices, who were allegedly driving under the influence, have been arrested and will be presented in court again on Wednesday. Meanwhile, two children injured in the incident remain in critical condition and are undergoing treatment.
Additionally, SHO Deepak Bhitade’s tenure at Jaripatka had been under scrutiny due to ongoing illegal activities and frequent complaints from citizens. A notable issue involved arranging a meeting between a MCOCA-accused notorious criminal, Pappu Patel, and a fraud victim while in police custody, which prompted an investigation. Following the confirmation of this misconduct, Bhitade was transferred to the Special Branch. Inspector Bapu Dhere has taken over the command of Jaripatka police station.
These actions have caused unrest among SHOs, with reliable sources indicating that the tenures of other station heads in the city are also under review, and further transfers could occur soon.
