Nagpur: New ‘No Parking Zones’ to Ease Dhantoli Traffic Congestion

Administration to Designate 'No Parking Zones' in Dhantoli

Nagpur: In response to a directive from the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court, the city administration is implementing a plan to reduce congestion in the Dhantoli area by designating several ‘No Parking Zones’. Joint Commissioner of Police Aswati Dorje and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Shashikant Satav have issued separate yet concurrent notifications to outline parking restrictions and streamline traffic flow in the central city area.

Dhantoli, once known for its scenic bungalows, has seen a surge in development since the 1990s, becoming a hub for hospitals and commercial properties. This transformation has led to severe traffic congestion, prompting local residents to file a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the High Court, seeking regulation to restore order and peace.

Following a joint survey by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and the Traffic Control Branch, several streets in Dhantoli have been marked as ‘No Parking Zones’:

– From Dumbhre Jewellers (opposite Patrakar Bhavan) to Gorakshan Compound
– From Silver Palace Building to Warambhe Hospital
– From Bharuka Bhavan to Dr. Pendse Hospital
– From Neuron Hospital to Bhagwat Darshan Building (50 meters)

The current measures align with the 2017 notification by Nagpur City Police, which also included making some lanes one-way to improve traffic flow. While these arrangements initially worked well, enforcement issues and conflicts between traffic cops and citizens, especially due to the heavy influx of visitors to the numerous hospitals, have made consistent enforcement challenging.

Additional No Parking Zones Include:

– From Bhiwapurkar Chamber to Dhantoli Garden
– From Mishra House to Tilak Vidyalay (50 meters on either side)
– From Shrikrishna Hrudyalay to Congress Nagar T-point
– From Neuron Hospital to Lokmat Square
– From Pande House (North side) HP Petrol Pump to Congress Nagar T-point
– From Patrakar Bhavan to District Library gate

Parking Arrangements:
