Nagpur: Responding to public demand, the City Traffic Police have introduced new measures on Wardha Road aimed at easing congestion, particularly during peak hours. Starting today, right turns will be prohibited at key intersections, including Rahate Colony Square and Kriplani Square, between 6:30 PM and 8:30 PM from Monday to Saturday.

The move comes after a trial run conducted from September 23 to 28 showed positive results, with many citizens requesting its continuation to address traffic bottlenecks. The trial revealed that about 80% of traffic on this route moves straight, with only 20% requiring right or U-turns. To further improve the flow of traffic, signal timings have been extended by 10 seconds at Morris College T-point and Ajni Square during peak hours.

While the new system has significantly reduced congestion, a small number of drivers are facing challenges due to the right turn restrictions. However, police noted that U-turns can still be made 200 meters ahead of Kriplani Square, in front of the Central Jail, to accommodate drivers heading towards Deekshabhoomi.

Traffic will only be allowed to make left turns at Rahate Square and Kriplani Square. U-turns can be made at designated points, and residents near Deekshabhoomi will have special provisions for access. Strict enforcement will be in place, with additional traffic police personnel deployed to manage the situation at key intersections.

This new system is expected to alleviate the congestion that previously plagued motorists, especially during evening rush hours, and will remain in effect until further notice.
