Nagpur: To mark International Day Against Drug Abuse, Nagpur Police and Maitri Drug De-addiction Center came together to organize a joint program at Nagpur commissionerate on Tuesday. The event aimed to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of drug abuse and foster a collaborative effort to make Nagpur a drug-free city.
Commissioner of Police, Amitesh Kumar, addressed the gathering and reiterated the commitment of Nagpur Police to combat drug abuse. He emphasized the importance of educating people about the hazards associated with drug consumption and emphasized the need to identify and dismantle drug peddlers and suppliers in the city.
During his speech, Commissioner Kumar called upon the 30 addiction-free individuals present at the program to play an active role in breaking the supply chain by providing information about drug peddlers to the authorities. Recognizing their triumph over addiction, these individuals were honored and celebrated as a symbol of rebirth.
Commissioner Kumar also appealed to the citizens of Nagpur to cooperate in making the city drug-free, emphasizing that it would be impossible to achieve this goal without their support and involvement.
As part of the program, Savita Harkare, a news editor who has been actively involved in de-addiction work for the past 30 years, shared her experiences with the audience. Harkare informed the gathering about her Marathi book titled ‘Jhing,’ which delves into the subject of de-addiction.
Dignitaries present at the event included Joint Commissioner of Police Aswathi Dorje, Additional Commissioners of Police Sanjay Patil and Sudarshan Rathod, as well as representatives from Maitri Drug De-addiction Center, Tushar Natu and Ravi Padhye.
The joint program organized by Nagpur Police and Maitri Drug De-addiction Center highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts in combating drug abuse and creating a drug-free society. It served as a platform to honor individuals who have successfully overcome addiction and emphasized the need for collective action to break the supply chain of drugs in Nagpur.
