The victims were students and were returning to Koradi after enjoying a party. Jai Bhongade, who was driving the car at a high speed, lost control of the vehicle and collided with the railing near the service road. The impact of the collision was so intense that the car somersaulted thrice and finally turned turtle killing Aditya and Vikram alias Ayush on the spot and injuring Jai Bhongade, Sujal Manwatkar and Sujal Chauhan.

Koradi Police said that Vikram Gade was a law student while Aditya was a second year student of Sone College of Pharmacy, Mahadula. A native of Chamorshi, district Gadchiroli, Aditya was staying in a rented room. Injured Jai Bhongade and Sujal Chauhan are the second year BTech students while Sujay Manwatkar is second year MBBS student.

In another incident, 22-year-old Abhishek Pannase was killed in a freak accident after his bike rammed into a parked car and then dashed an oncoming vehicle on Sangam Road in the city.

Reports said Pannase’s bike had first dashed a car parked illegally on the roadside. After hitting the car, Pannase lost control of his bike, which veered towards the other side of the road and collided with an oncoming vehicle. A seriously injured Pannase was rushed to a hospital at Hingna, where he was declared dead. MIDC police have registered an offence of causing death due to negligence.

In the first hit-n-run incident, a rashly-driven tipper (MH-40/CT-4566) crushed a motorcyclist to death in the Kapil Nagar area on Monday afternoon. Identified as Bhavesh Ravindra Bharne (27), the deceased was a resident of Flat No 606, Vidarbha Complex, near Sangam Talkies. Bhavesh was going on a Hero Honda motorcycle (MH40/CV-6967) around 12.15 pm. Near the petrol pump at Kamgar Nagar Square, the recklessly-driven tipper hit Bhavesh killing him on the spot.

The tipper driver, Radheshyam Hiralal Rahangdale (53), a resident of Kandri, Kanhan, sped away fearing public violence. On the basis of the information given by Kartik Bharne (24), younger brother of the deceased, Kapil Nagar Police registered a case under Sections 106(1), 281 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), read with Sections 134, 177 of the Motor Vehicle (MV ) Act, against the tipper driver.

In the second such incident, a speeding motor vehicle knocked a pedestrian dead when he was crossing the road after parking his two-wheeler on Tarodi Khurd flyover on Jabalpur-Hyderabad highway in Wathoda area Monday evening.

The deceased, Prakash Ashok Mahant (29), was a resident of Tulsi Nagar, near Hanuman Mandir, Bhandewadi. Around 5 pm, Prakash parked his Honda Activa (MH49/CE-5120) on the flyover and was crossing the road. Suddenly, a speeding motor vehicle hit Prakash killing him instantaneously. Fearing arrest, the driver of the ‘killer’ vehicle fled the spot.

Wathoda Police registered a case under Sections 106(2), 281 of the BNS, read with Sections 134, 177of the MV Act, following a complaint lodged by the deceased’s brother Rakesh Mahant.

Among hit-and-run incidents, Gittikhadan police are still groping in the dark for clues in the death of a labourer on Katol Road bypass.

A senior citizen was killed after being knocked down by a speeding school bus on the road stretch connecting Chhota Tajbagh and Tukdoji Statue in Hudkeshwar police area on Monday morning. The bus driver sped away after the mishap.

The deceased, Ratnakar Ramchandra Dixit (63) was a resident of Shikshak Colony, Bharat Nagar, Pardi. Dixit was going on a bicycle around 8.45 am. A speeding school bus hit Dixit from behind injuring him seriously. Dixit was rushed to Government Medical College & Hospital where the doctors declared him ‘brought dead.’

Hudkeshwar Police registered a case under Sections 106(a), 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, read with Sections 134, 177 of the Motor Vehicle Act, and started investigation.

The hit-and-run incidents seem to have increased in the city even as the central govt has suspended implementation of the strict provision of law dealing with it under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), apparently due to the nationwide protests by truckers last year.
