Nagpur: Nagpur district on Tuesday witnessed sudden surge in coronavirus cases as, in one single day, 17 people tested positive for the virus. Of the 17 cases, 10 were found positive in Nagpur city, while 6 people came positive in rural parts. One person who tested positive is not a resident of the district.
No death was reported in the new season. In one single day, 13 patients were declared recovered. There are 14 patients admitted in various hospitals in the city. Most patients admitted in the hospitals are co-morbid. Seven patients are taking treatment in Government Medical College & Hospital (GMC&H), two patients are in Railway Hospital, one each is admitted in Viveka Hospital, Lotus Hospital, Meditrina Hospital, Hope Hospital and Mental Hospital.
Of the 53 active patients, 39 are from Nagpur city, while 11 are from Nagpur rural. Three patients who have been declared recovered are not the residents of Nagpur district. 39 patients have been advised to have home isolation.
According to Dr P P Joshi, Head of Department of Medicine, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Nagpur, there is no need to be alarmed, but everyone should stay alert. Everybody should keep in mind that COVID-19 is here to stay. Since most people are vaccinated, the severity of the COVID-19 has been already reduced. At the same time, precautions are to be taken. Following COVID-19 norms like wearing a mask, using sanitizer, maintaining social distance is a must. Nobody should panic due to the rise in cases, he said.
Of the 96 samples, RTPCR detected 92 cases, while 4 came positive through Rapid Antigen Testing (RAT). Of the 96 samples, 65 came from Nagpur rural, while in city, 31 samples underwent testing. Most hospitals in Nagpur are witnessing cases where people have COVID-19 like symptoms, as most people are suffering from cough, cold and fever. Doctors in the city have advised people to follow the rule of home isolation.
