Nagpur sees alarming rise in road accidents, 110 fead in first half of 2024

Nagpur: A disturbing trend has emerged in Nagpur, with a significant increase in road accidents and fatalities. According to an RTI reply, 337 accidents occurred in the city between January 1 and June 30, 2024, resulting in 110 deaths and 293 injuries. This surpasses the total number of accidents for the entire year of 2023, which saw 604 incidents, 152 deaths, and 597 injuries.

The data reveals a six-year trend of rising accidents, with 761 fatal accidents claiming 789 lives and injuring 486 people between 2018 and June 30, 2024. Police attribute the majority of these incidents to human error, with drunk driving and poor road conditions also contributing factors.
