Nagpur: “The real success for music artists is when their songs or music resonate with listeners’ emotions and get accepted by them,” said an elated Shreyas Puranik of Nagpur — winner of two prestigious Filmfare Awards — during a media interaction held at Vishnuji Ki Rasoi, Bajaj Nagar, on Wednesday.

Shreyas, a music composer, singer and lyricist, who belongs to Nagpur, received Best Music Album award for the chartbuster song ‘Satranga’, sung by Arijit Singh, at the recent 69th Filmfare Awards ceremony held in Gujarat. The song is part of the Hindi film ‘Animal’ directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga.

In addition to this, he also won the R D Burman Award for Upcoming Music Talent 2024.

Shreyas began his training in music and singing at the age of three. He was a student at Somalwar Nikalas School, Nagpur, and later moved to Mumbai to pursue formal training under the guidance of renowned singer Suresh Wadkar, whom he considers his guru. His parents Prashant and Shubha Puranik, renowned chef Vishnu Manohar, and other family members were present during the press meet.

The music composer says that the success of the song ‘Satranga’ has been a turning point for him, and it continues to be a chart-topper even weeks after its release. He expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming response from the audience, stating that he waited 15 years for this moment of gratification. Puranik offered advice to aspiring artists, saying that patience is the key to success in the music industry.

“In an industry where everyone competes to earn a spot, nothing comes easy. Be resilient with your craft and understand the audience’s interests, your talent will surely be recognised,” he said. Puranik also said that nepotism cannot exist for a longer period in the music industry because listeners will only accept artists whose music or voice connects with them. He added that the guidance of a guru is essential in music, as it helps artists identify areas for improvement and hone their skills.

Shreyas began his career as an assistant music director under director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, composing music for the songs ‘Gajanana’ and ‘Ab Tohe Jane Na Doongi’ for the film ‘Bajirao Mastani. He also worked with Bhansali on the films ‘Padmaavat’, ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’, and ‘Malaal’. He also worked as a music composer for several single music videos for Marathi films ‘Photocopy’, ‘Lapachhapi’, and ‘Faster Fene’, and for the Hindi short film ‘Budh’ (Awakening).
