Nagpur Smart City bagged an award of excellence for being a leader in creating healthy streets in Indian cities

Nagpur. Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation Limited (NSSCDCL) bagged an award of excellence for being a leader in creating ‘Healthy Streets in Indian cities’. Nagpur Smart City received an award in a two-day workshop jointly organized by the Union Ministry of Housing Affairs and Urban Development Department in collaboration with Smart City Mission and Pimpri -Chichwad Smart City recently.

Dr. Pranita Umredkar, (GM,I/c), Environment division and Nodal Officer of Streets 4 People Challenge Nagpur Smart City, received the awards by the hands of Shri Kunal Kumar, Hon. Joint Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, in the third national workshop on ‘Streets and Public Spaces’ held at Ga Di Madgulkar Auditorium in Pimpri-Chinchwad .

It may be mentioned that in the phase 2 of the India Cycle 4 Change and Streets 4 People challenges, initiative of the Smart Cities Mission and Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs- GoI, top 15 pioneered cities of India were selected out of the 29 cities.

An award of excellence for being a leader has been given to Nagpur for developing healthy streets policy, institutional set up and capacity building at city level to improve the streets network and setting an example on scaling up of the healthy streets infrastructure in city along with the all road owning authorities with the vision to improve the mobility, connectivity and accessibility in the city.

Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari (IAS), Municipal Commissioner appreciated the work of Smart City and plans to improve the overall pedestrian safety throughout the city. Prithviraj B.P. (IAS), CEO , NSSCDCL, expressed his interest in developing a holistic approach by supporting the pedestrian safety infrastructure, facilitating through the road owning agencies by backing it with appropriate policies, capacity building workshops and NMT infrastructure. Dr. Pranita Umredkar, Nodal Officer, acknowledged the efforts of the Naresh Borkar, Executive Engineer, NH Division in supporting for the submission of the ministry requirements and spearheading

NMT infrastructure in the city. Further, she appreciated the countless work and technical support of Harshal Bopardikar, Sr. Urban Designer, Urban Design Cell, NMC along with the team of ITDP and NIUA. She extended her heartfelt appreciation to the Hon. Chairman of Nagpur Smart City, Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee and the Board of Directors for their motivation and support through the 3 years journey of these challenges.
