Nagpur: In a shocking move, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has started demanding fees from students who use the Kasturba library in Sadar, a facility that has been free for the past 26 years. This sudden decision has sparked widespread outrage among students, who are urging authorities to reconsider the move.
Students who rely on the library for their studies are finding it difficult to pay the fees, and are requesting exemptions. Shailesh Sankhe, President of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena in Nagpur, has come out in support of the students and has been donating money and materials to the library.
The library’s poor condition, including unclean bathrooms, has added to the students’ distress. Many students have pointed out the irony of being asked to pay fees when the library does not even provide basic facilities. In fact, students have previously contributed money to purchase dustbins for the library.
The NMC’s decision to charge fees has been seen as unfair and has led to threats of protests. Students have warned that if the authorities fail to understand their situation, they will be forced to take to the streets in protest. The situation remains tense, with students demanding free access to the library and the NMC standing firm on its decision.
