Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has taken a decisive step towards embracing electric mobility by inaugurating the EV (electric vehicle) Cell on Friday. The primary goal of this initiative is to transform Nagpur into a city fully prepared for electric vehicles (EVs). The EV Cell is designated as the authoritative body responsible for deliberating and making decisions on all matters related to the development of an EV ecosystem in Nagpur. The inaugural meeting, presided over by the Honorable Municipal Commissioner, marked the commencement of this crucial venture.
The establishment of the EV Cell aligns with the objectives outlined in the Maharashtra State EV Policy of 2021, aiming to meet specific targets for Nagpur. Comprising representatives from various NMC departments, as well as key entities such as Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd, Nagpur Improvement Trust, Nagpur Smart & Sustainable City Development Corporation Ltd., and RTO, the EV Cell is a cross-departmental collaboration.
In the upcoming months, the EV Cell will draft a comprehensive City EV Readiness Plan, laying the foundation for Nagpur’s transition to electric mobility. To facilitate this transformative process, the NMC has scheduled the City EV Accelerator Workshop on 20th January 2024. This workshop aims to bring together distinguished individuals from the government, private sector, and civil society. Designed as a collaborative platform, the workshop will play a pivotal role in advancing Nagpur’s efforts to establish itself as a city fully equipped for electric vehicles.
