Nagpur – In an unprecedented move, the Nagpur City Police Commissionerate’s Transport Department took action against thousands of traffic violators, imposing fines amounting to over Rs. 63.86 lakh in a single day. This operation, the largest in two years, marks a significant step toward enforcing traffic regulations and promoting road safety across the city.
The large-scale crackdown was spearheaded by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Archit Chandak Bhapose, with traffic police teams stationed across all traffic circles in Nagpur. A total of 6,353 violations were penalized under various sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.
A majority of the fines were issued for helmet violations, with 4,599 motorists penalized for riding without one. Additionally, the operation targeted 51 instances of rogue side driving and 163 cases of triple-seat riding. Police also addressed 158 cases of signal jumping and 96 instances of driving without a seatbelt.
Further violations included 34 cases of illegal use of black film on vehicles and 71 instances where drivers were not carrying necessary medical documents. The crackdown also covered 82 cases of overloading with passengers, 80 violations of traffic police orders, and 42 instances of vehicles entering no-entry zones.
Other notable violations included 24 cases of driving without a license, 46 drivers penalized for crossing the stop line, and 460 cases of dangerous parking on public roads. Additionally, there were 447 cases addressing various other traffic rule breaches.
DCP Bhapose emphasized that similar enforcement campaigns will be carried out in the future to ensure continued compliance with traffic regulations. The department also urged citizens to adhere to road safety norms, such as wearing helmets, using seatbelts, and following all traffic rules, to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of all road users.
