Nagpur’s Traffic Department has swiftly responded to recent criticism from the High Court by intensifying enforcement efforts. Over a span of just two days, the department took action against a total of 2,441 auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws for violating regulations on passenger capacity and parking.
Under the leadership of DCP Traffic Shashikant Satav, the Nagpur Traffic Department initiated a targeted crackdown beginning June 25, 2024. This operation primarily targeted auto drivers and e-rickshaw operators found guilty of carrying excess passengers or causing disruptions due to improper parking.
The stringent measures aim to alleviate traffic congestion and improve commuting conditions across the city. Authorities have emphasized that e-rickshaws are strictly prohibited from operating on major highways and key routes, including but not limited to Wadi to Sitabuldi, Sitabuldi to CA Road, Sitabuldi to Kamptee Road, Sitabuldi to Chatrapati Square, Sitabuldi to Hingna, Sitabuldi to Katol Naka, Sitabuldi to Saoner Road, Sitabuldi to Nandanvan, Sitabuldi to Hudkeshwar, and Sitabuldi to Besa, along with all national highways and flyovers.
This ongoing enforcement initiative underscores the department’s commitment to enhancing traffic flow and ensuring public safety in Nagpur.
