Nagpur: A lady clerk of Nagpur Zilla Parishad was booked by the police for the pension scam of Rs 1.86 crore. The accused woman allegedly created bogus accounts in the name of retired Government servants and pocketed their pension. The investigation is likely to be transferred to the Economic Offences Wing (EoW ) of Nagpur Rural police, officials said.
The accused, identified as Sarita Chandrashekhar Neware, was working as junior clerk in the Education Department of Panchayat Samiti Parseoni of Nagpur ZP. The complaint was lodged by Subhash Parasram Jadhav, Block Development Officer, Panchayat Samiti, Parseoni.
According to police, Sarita created 17 bogus accounts of retired employees and used bank accounts of other persons to receive the amount. As a result, the bank accounts started receiving pension for these bogus retired employees from the State exchequer. The fraud came to fore in November first week. After verifying the transactions and the documents, BDO Jadhav approached the police and lodged a complaint.
SDPO Parseoni and SP Vishal Anand directed the police station in-charge to register the offence. The case was registered by the police. Further investigation is on. A police official said that the case would be investigated at all possible angles and accomplices of the accused would also be arrested soon.
