Nagpur’s Double-Decker Flyover Inaugurated, Gadkari Calls it a Boon

Nagpur – The city of Nagpur is witnessing a remarkable transformation in its infrastructure. Adding to this evolution, the newly inaugurated double-decker flyover from LIC Square to Automotive Square is set to be a major benefit for the people of Nagpur. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, expressed his strong belief that this flyover would prove to be a blessing for the city’s residents during its inauguration ceremony held on Saturday.

This technically challenging and ambitious 5.67 km long double-decker flyover was officially inaugurated by Minister Gadkari in the presence of prominent dignitaries, including MLAs Krishna Khopde, Vikas Kumbhare, and Mohan Mate, former minister Sulekha Kumbhare, District Collector Dr. Vipin Itankar, Municipal Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary, BJP city president Jitendra Kukde, and former MLA Sudhakar Deshmukh. Officials from MahaMetro, including Project Director Shri Tyagi and Director of Strategic Planning Anilkumar Kokate, were also present.

Shri Gadkari proudly remarked that Nagpur is becoming known as “the city of flyovers.” He stated, “I am proud that our city has built a state-of-the-art flyover that is unmatched anywhere in Asia. It’s a special honor for Nagpur to hold this record. I also congratulate the people of Nagpur for their support.”

The newly constructed flyover will significantly reduce travel time between Nagpur Airport and Kamptee to just 20 minutes. Shri Gadkari also mentioned the impact of the double-decker flyover on Wardha Road and the ₹1,200 crore Pardi flyover in enhancing Nagpur’s prestige. He credited the District Collector and Municipal Commissioner for overcoming challenges during the project, while also commending MahaMetro for completing the project at minimal cost.

Key Features of the Double-Decker Flyover:
– This is the longest four-lane double-decker flyover built on a single column pier.
– The project cost is ₹573 crore.
– Five metro stations have been constructed along the flyover at Gaddigodam, Kadbi Square, Indora Square, Nari Road, and Automotive Square.
– A steel bridge with a capacity of 1,650 tonnes has been built near the Gaddigodam Gurudwara.
– At Gaddigodam, the structure features a road at ground level, a railway track above it, then the flyover, and a metro line on the top level.
– The flyover has eased the heavy traffic congestion on the Kamptee Road, providing significant relief to commuters.

This infrastructural development is expected to greatly improve the commuting experience and add to the growing list of urban advancements in Nagpur.
