Meanwhile, soon after the incident, Puja’s parents reached the college from Nagpur and blamed the officials for her unfortunate death. They even allegedly created ruckus in the college premises. The aggrieved parents alleged that the college was not allowing students to appear for examinations until the fees were paid. Stressed due to this, Puja ended her life, they claimed.

Stating that the reason behind the suicide was not known to him, Dr Lalitbhushan Waghmare, Vice-Chancellor of DMIHER, assured of a thorough probe into the incident. The college administration will cooperate with the police, he assured.

Dr Udhay Meghe, Special Executive Officer of the University, expressed his utter shock at the incident saying nothing like this has happened in the University before. While the college administration blamed stress for Puja’s extreme step, her parents stated that the college administration’s apathetic attitude of not allowing students to appear for exams due to non-payment of fees, was responsible for their daughter’s death.

Some other students, speaking on condition of anonymity, also pointed out the college administration’s insistence of paying fees and other problems for the growing stress among them.

PSO Sandeep Kapade of the Sawangi Police Station, said that the police are waiting for the post-mortem report to give their probe further direction.
