Nagpur’s Mitali bags 3000m gold, 2nd yellow medal in two days

Nagpur: The Nagpur district athletes continued with their good showing as Mitali Bhoyar won a gold, Aarti Bhagat bagged a silver while Nitin Dorkhande clinched a bronze medal on concluding day of the 38th Maharashtra State Junior Athletics Championship at Shiv Chhatrapati Sports City, Balewadi, Pune on Sunday.

This was the second gold medal in two days for Mitali as she won the 5000m race on Saturday. Aarti had pocketed a bronze in the same event.

The event was organised by Pune District Athletics Association under the auspices of Maharashtra State Athletics Association. Mitali’s gold came in the 3000m race for women under the age of 20 years. A member of Track Start Athletics Club, Mitali carved out a time of 10:12.40 seconds. Nagpur made it 1-2 in the event with Namhya Foundation’s Aarti taking the second spot for her silver with 10:26.23.

In the men’s Under-20 triple jump, Khel Foundation’s Nitin picked a bronze with a leap of 14.30m. Nashik’s Bhushan Shinde won gold (15.15m).

Mitali trains under Police Department’s Ravindra Tong and Umesh Naidu. Aarti is coached by Gaurav Mirase while Nitin practices under Shubham Gaurav.

NDAA President Gurudeo Nagrale, Secretary Dr Sharad Suryawanshi, Nagesh Sahare, Dr Sanjay Chaudhari, Umesh Naidu, Shekhar Suryawanshi, RamchandraWani, Akshay Pal, SJ Anthony, Archana Kottewar, Tong, Rajesh Bhute, Chandrabhan Kolte, Brijmohan Singh Rawat, Kamlesh Hinge, Ashutosh Bawane, Praful Bele, Mirase, Nishant Deharia, Shubham Gaurav, Pankaj Karpe and others congratulated the athletes for their medal-winning efforts.
