Nagpur: Heavy rainfall has been pouring over Nagpur since Wednesday night, causing a continuous downpour. As a result, the city’s daily life has been severely affected. The overflowing Nag River has led to water entering numerous slums in East Nagpur, forcing many residents to evacuate and seek shelter at nearby schools and community centers.
The water level in the Nag River has not receded, making it challenging for the surrounding neighborhoods to cope with the rising water levels. Areas like Nandanvan, Bhawani Ward, Paradi, and Wathoda have experienced extensive flooding in several slum settlements, leaving people stranded and distressed. Shivajinagar slum, located near the Gangabai Ghat, has also been inundated with water.
Even in many apartments across the city, water has seeped in, causing significant damage. In some places, waterlogging has occurred, particularly in the low-lying areas of Kholgao Bhag. The heavy rainfall has prompted the authorities to declare holidays for some schools in Nagpur. The Pili River in North Nagpur has also overflowed, affecting residential areas in its vicinity. Citizens are urged to exercise caution and stay vigilant against flash floods.
In response to the situation, the Fire Department of the Municipal Corporation has been inundated with distress calls since early morning. The city’s machinery has been mobilized to address the emergency. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions and stay updated on the latest announcements from the municipal authorities.
The continuous heavy rain has made it imperative for citizens to take preventive measures and ensure their safety until the weather conditions improve in Nagpur.”
