Nagpur: Nayan Sarde, an ace sprinter from Nagpur, has been selected in the Indian team that will participate in the South Asian Athletics Federation (SAAF) Junior Championships to be held in Chennai from September 11 to 13. The Indian contingent will be represented by 55 athletes including 27 girls.
A trainee of Nagpur Krida Prabodhini, Nayan will participate in the 110m hurdles event at the Championship. Teams from Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Maldives, and Pakistan have also confirmed their entries for the three-day SAAF competition in Chennai.
Last month, Nayan, a student of Samsher Khan, became the first Nagpur sprinter to represent India in the U-20 World Athletics Championships held in Lima, Peru. A strong 55-member Indian team, including 28 boys and 27 girls, was selected by the Athletics Federation of India for the SAAF junior championship.
Nayan thus became the first athlete from Nagpur to be selected in the Indian team for the South Asian Junior Athletics Championship.
President of Nagpur District Athletics Association (NDAA) Gurudeo Nagrale, Secretary Sharad Suryawanshi, Ram Wani, Jeetendra Ghordadekar, and other members congratulated Nayan for his remarkable achievement and wished him success in his forthcoming endeavour.
