Nagpur: The drug menace in the city seems to be increasing rapidly, especially amongst the youngsters.
Cannabis, opium and hash (charas) has gained massive popularity across Nagpur and MD is famous amongst the youth from wealthy backgrounds. On Friday, Nagpur Police seized a consignment of MD worth Rs 1.91 crore. The consignments for the same have been arriving from Mumbai.
In the last five years, along with the drug peddlers, the number of consumption for these drugs have gone up as well. The investigating officers have the right to search any suspect without a warrant or other legal justification under Section 41 of the NDPS act and can also arrest the suspect by seizing the drugs.

In the year 2020, goods worth Rs 1.64 crore were seized, in 2021, goods worth Rs 2.62 crore were seized. The number increased by almost double in 2022 after goods worth Rs 4.13 crore were seized throughout the year.
