NAGPUR: City shuttler Arundhati Pantawane bagged the first international title of her career on Saturday by triumphing at the 2012 Bahrain International Challenge Badminton tournament being played in Manama.
In a cracker of a final, which was an all-Indian affair, Arundhati defeated Mumbai’s Tanvi Lad. The city girl wasn’t at her best in the first game of the title clash which she lost.
But Arundhati made a splendid comeback winning the next two to clinch the match and title 20-22, 21-12, 21-19.
Earlier in the semifinals the 23-year-old Arundhati, who trains under Pullela Gopichand at Hyderabad, staged the biggest upset of the tournament when she shocked Turkish world No. 45, Yegit Neslihan, 21-17, 21-17 in a tight finish.
