Nagpur: International ultracyclist Dr Amit Samarth of Nagpur successfully defended his title in the Race Across India. Dr Samarth finished the race in Solo 18-50 category in eight days, two hours and 17 minutes. Krzysztof Fechnar from Team Poland ended second finishing the race in 9 days 7 hours and 13 minutes. CA Nikhil finished third and Vishnu Todkar ended fourth.
The second edition of Indian Oil Race Across India, which is India’s longest cycle race, was held from Srinagar to Kanyakumari and covered 12 States. The event was organised by Tigerman Sports Pvt Ltd. Cyclists travelled 3758 kms in 7 to 14 days.
Team JNARDDC comprising Dr Anupam Agnihotri, Vipin Naik, Govinda Bhaskar, Nitin Warhadpande emerged winners in the Team of Four event. Team ANK Seals Tigers, consisting of Jayant Mendhi, Sweety Malik (woman), Mukund Kamath and Rupesh Meshram, finished the race in six days, 12 hours and 48 minutes, and were placed second. They were followed by team The Tuskers from Kenya and Team HCG at 3rd and 4th place in team of 4 category.
In the Solo 50-60 age category, Deepak Amin finished at the top reaching the destination in 10 days 3 hours and 39 minutes. Bobba R Reddy was placed second (12 days 10 hours and 36 minutes). Team Sahyadri Tigers (Nitin Yelpale and Chintamani Madgulkar) secured 1st position in Team of 2 category. They completed in 7 days 9 hrs 5 min.
Team Shivneri (Om Deepak Korhale 19 yrs and Deepak Raju Korhale) and Team Race to Vision (Sagar Bobade and Ajay Lalwani) finished on the podium. In Solo above 60 years of age, the only rider Dilip Warkad completed the race in 12 days 15 hrs 13 min.
R Rajapandian, Assistant Manager, IOCL and Vijay Kumar, Tamil Nadu Tourism Development were present for the felicitation of the winners in Kanyakumari. The organisers’ team included Race Director Vivitt Walve, Project Director Jeetendra Nayak, Anirudh Pandya, Mukul Samarth, Dilip Warkad, Ravindra Paranjape, Manoj Jadhav, Bhushan Deoraskar.
