Nandanvan Child Kidnapping follow- up: accused in custody for three days

Nagpur News: Geeta Bankar, accused of abducting and selling her friend’s eight month old grandchild for fifty thousand rupees, was put in police custody for three days on Tuesday.

Bankar had sold eight- month- old Anshu Bairwa to an unsuspecting childless couple three months ago. When repeated assurances from Bankar of getting her child back turned futile, the child’s mother filed a complaint with Nandanwan police on Sunday. The police arrested Geeta, since she had taken the child out for a walk and returned without him. Geeta spilled the beans after her arrest, and mother was reunited with child on Monday, the very next day.
