National Mathematics Day on Dec 22 to mark birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan

Nagpur: All universities and colleges will celebrate ‘National Mathematics Day’ on December 22 to mark birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan who took the world of Mathematics by storm at a very small age. The wizard was born on December 22, 1887 in Erode town of Tamilnadu.

According to a UGC (University Grants Commission) notification, all universities and colleges have been directed to organise seminars on this day along with various contests, poster presentation to inform the students about this great Indian mathematician. All the posters should be based on mathematics. The UGC seeks to boost interest of students in mathematics subjects through ‘Mathematics of Life’ and ‘Application of Mathematics’ topics, the UGC notification said.
