Nagpur: The festival of Navratri, which marks the worship of Goddess Durga, began on Monday with religious fervour and grandeur in Nagpur. Devotees welcomed Goddess Durga for the nine days of festivities after a gap of two years of COVID-19 pandemic with full enthusiasm.
Hundreds of devotees thronged temples from early morning to offer their prayers to the Goddess. This festival is celebrated to commemorate Maa Durga’s win over the demon Mahishasura and represents the victory of peace and dharma over ego and evil. Devotees worship different avatars of Goddess Durga for nine days and observe fast. Some observe fast for nine days while some prefer to fast on the first and last day of this festive period.

The prominent areas across Nagpur have already set up pandals and welcomed the Goddess Durga. For the first time after two years of pandemic, this year’s Navratri festival celebrations began without any restrictions. The Mahalaxmi Jagdamba Temple of Koradi has been decorated to celebrate the festival with pomp. The temple got a fresh coat of paint giving it a refreshing look. The temple will remain open for devotees for 22 hours daily during the festival.

During Navratri festival, lakhs of devotees visit Koradi temple to take Darshan of Goddess Mahalaxmi Jagdamba. Keeping the enthusiasm of devotees in mind, the district administration has made adequate arrangements for visitors during this nine-day festival. The Police and Fire Department are taking care of security and safety of the temple and devotees during the festival to avoid any untoward activity or mishap during the celebration.
Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will run extra buses from Nagpur to Koradi daily for devotees. Like Koradi, the administration has also completed all arrangements for the Navratri festival that takes place in Durga Temple in Pardi which is also a famous destination for devotees during the festival.
Considering that the people weren’t able to take part in Garba for the last two years owing to the COVID19 restrictions, the youngsters are extremely excited for the nine-day Garba fest. The city-based Garba and Dandia organisers are also putting efforts to attract a huge crowd during the events by issuing passes and announcing gifts for participants.
