Naxals should give up arms struggle to honour President Droupadi Murmu

As the world’s largest Parliamentary democracy is all set to celebrate the 75th year of India’s Independence day, a new era was ushered in today when a tribal woman became the second woman President of the Country. Welcome Her Excellence Droupadi Murmu to the highest office and being the first citizen of the country.

It was pleasant to witness the swearing in ceremony in the Central Hall of Parliament when she exchanged her seat with outgoing President Ramnath Kovind after the oath ceremony. Chief Justice of India, Justice M V Ramana administered the oath.

A host of dignitaries including the first woman President of India, Smt Pratibha Patil , were present at the grand function.Though Patil looked frail due to aging factor but her presence added glamour to the function. She seated next to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.It was also heartening to see Congress President Sonia Gandhi was present.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis were seated in the front row while Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Aditya Nath was in the second row. How this happened can not be explained but for the people of Maharashtra were delighted while detractors of Shinde-Fadnavis government were certainly at a loss to see this unexpected political development.

Loud and clear the message is that Fadnavis enjoys the blessings of party higher ups and Shinde is an obvious beneficiary of this patronage.

Now the task before the new President is to carry forward the legacy of India’s democracy and besides performing her constitutional duties, she is expected to pay much attention to the needs of underprivileged tribals living in remote areas and deep forests and protect them from excesses of law enforcing agencies, forests mafia and off course from the outlawed Maoists.

The naxalites, as commonly they are called, should give up arms struggle and join the mainstream in the country to honour the prestigious post of President of India, now occupied by one of their own tribes. All tribals are not naxals but most of the naxals are tribals in naxal affected districts and states.
