Nagpur: “A Society grows when wise men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in. As part of tree plantation drive”, NCC OTA, Kamptee undertook Van Mahotsav 2017 in a big way in the Academy premises on 07 Jul 2017. Maj Gen AP Bam, SM, VSM Commandant and Ila Bam took the initiative in the plantation drive of more than 1000 trees in the campus.
More than 700 OTA personnel including Officers, Permanent Instructor Staff, Civilian Employees and Course Students, who are teachers and professors from all over India undergoing commissioning course at the OTA, enthusiastically participated in the plantation drive. It was also an occasion to spread the awareness of planting more trees for a safe tomorrow. The arboriculture plan of the Academy includes ornamental dress, fruit trees and shade trees all laid out in a systematic manner.
Speaking on the occasion, the Commandant stressed on the need to plant more trees to save the planet. He also cautioned on the environmental threats due to human & activities and deforestation. He wanted every teacher and professor undergoing training as Associate NCC Officers to undertake this solemn duty to educate the youth on this subject of afforestation.
The event was also attended by Sanjeev Gaur, Chief Conservator of forest, Nagpur Circle, Ashok Girhepuje, Conservator of Forest and Mohan Dhere, Divisional Forest Officer. The Chief Conservator expressed his willing cooperation in spreading the awareness. Lt Col (Dr) Ivan Singh, 2IC, 118 Territorial Battalion (GRENADIERS), Nagpur had been instrumental in arranging the saplings in adequate quantity.
