Nagpur News: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA from Morshi in Vidarbha Dr Anil Bonde has sent a harshly worded letter to Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan demanding immediate passage of a Government Resolution on the formation of Vidarbha State in Vidhan Sabha and sending the Resolution to Central Government for issuance of a Notification in this connection.

The letter exposed the criminal negligence of Nagpur Pact, signed on on 29.09.1953, by the Maharashtra Government deliberately and with the indifferent intentions of meting out injustice to Vidarbha region. “The State Government has been found not following the provisions of Nagpur Pact wherein it was mandatory for the Government to allot 23 per cent of Budget funds for Vidarbha’s development, 23 per cent jobs in Government-Semi Government undertakings for Vidarbha people, 23 per cent admissions in higher and technical education for Vidarbha students, 23 per cent MLAs in the Ministry, Winter Session of six weeks and other provisions. These provisions of Nagpur Pact have continuously been dumped in dustbins by the Maharashtra Government,” Bonde said in his letter.

The letter further said, “The outrageous result of this negligence is creation backlog of over Rs 75,000 crore in irrigation and other sectors. The farmers have been facing enormous problems following lesser and lesser rates for their produce and recovery of loans. About 32,000 farmers have committed suicides. The employment opportunities have been declining day by day due to no development activities in the region. And the worrisome aspect is the unemployed youths are going closer to Naxal movement. The malnutrition is taking heavy toll of children in remote areas of Vidarbha and the Government is not taking any measure to resolve the problem. Moreover, 5 districts out of 11 districts of Vidarbha have been infested with Naxam movement. Even though Vidarbha is generating electricity in big proportion, most of the areas of Vidarbha are facing load-shedding in the range of 12-18 hours. The burning of Nagpur Pact by people of Vidarbha is pointer to the need for formation of Vidarbha statehood. Therefore, I demand mmediate passage of a Government Resolution on the formation of Vidarbha State in Vidhan Sabha and sending the Resolution to Central Government for issuance of a Notification in this connection,” the letter sent by Morshi MLA Dr Anil Bonde to Chief Minister said.
