Need to make organ donation a movement stressed

A mega organ donation awareness rally was on Tuesday flagged off by Divisional Commissioner Anoop Kumar and Zilla Parishad President Neesha Savarkar at the historic Kasturchand Park. The rally, part of organ donation awareness campaign, traversed to Variety Square, a distance of one and half km and was participated in large numbers by doctors, over 5000 students of National Service Scheme (NSS) and other schools, colleges as well as citizens.

Addressing the rally, the ZP President Savarkar stressed the need for making organ donation a movement in the service of society. “After the death, the mortal remains are either cremated or buried. But with the concept of body donation, a person can get a new lease of life. Therefore, people should come forward and pledge body donation in the service of human beings,” Savarkar asserted.

Other dignitaries present on the occasion include MLA Dr Milind Mane, GMCH Deal Dr Abhimanyu Niswade, IGGMCH Dean Dr Meenakshi Wahane-Gajbhiye, District Civil Surgeon Dr Umesh Navade, Associate Professor Dr Avinash Gawande, Dr Manish Shrigiriwar, OSD of Super Speciality Hospital, Dr Sudhir Gupta, Dr Sangawar, Dr Hedau, Dr Naralwar, Dr Bhau Daydar, and others.

The rallyists, holding placards and banners reading “Angdaan He Kaam Mahan, Jaise Jeevan De Bhagwan,” “Acchi Soch Nek Irada, Angdaanse Samaj Ko Bhari Fayda,” “Angdaan Mahaan,” “Angdaan Se Mile Jindagi, Jeete Jeete Raktdaan, Jate Jate Jeevandaa,” “Apke Jindagi Ke Baad Bhi aur Jindagi Ke Saath Bhi,” “Apki Ankhe Duniya Dekhe, Apke Saath Bhi aur Apke Baad Bhi.” The rally proceeded from Kasturchand Park-RBI Square-Zero Mile-Gowari Flyover and culminated at Variety Square.

The occasion saw hundreds of citizens pledging organ and body donations. The first to fill up the form was District Civil Surgeon Dr Umesh Navade who pledged his body.

On Wednesday (August 31), various competitions such as Rangoli, Essay, Drawing etc have been organized at various colleges. A street play will also be staged at Variety Square at 10 am.

Nagpur Division is conducting the mega organ donation campaign from August 29 to September 1. Informative lecture will be held at 11 am at Saoner’s Rural Health Centre and at Ramna Maruti. Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule will felicitate the people who have donated their organs. This programme will be held on September 1 at 12 noon at GMC.
