Finance and Forest Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar on Saturday inaugurated the new building of Maharashtra State Biodiversity Board situated in Civil Lines. Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Head of Forest Force) Anil Kumar Saxena, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Sarjan Bhagat, Divisional Commissioner Anoop Kumar, Managing Director of Maharashtra Forest Development Corporation A K Nigam, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Production and Management) ASK Sinha and others were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Mungantiwar said, “Many species of flora and fauna and animals are getting extinct from the earth. Cooperation and participation of people as well as Biodiversity Board is needed to save the species that are on the verge of extinction. Everybody should spare some time for biodiversity,” appealed the minister.
Office of Maharashtra State Biodiversity Board was established in Nagpur temporarily in Van Bhavan (Forest Department building). Now, the office has been shifted to Biodiversity Bhavan in Civil Lines.
A book on fuel-wood stove and use of solar cookers in every household, the initiatives of Biodiversity Board was released by Mungantiwar on the occasion. Similarly, prizes of state-level photography contest based on biodiversity were distributed to the winners.
