Nagpur: A total of 770 vehicles were issued challans for violating the Motor Vehicle Act, while 147 drivers were penalized for drunken driving on New Year’s Eve in Nagpur. The strict vigilance of Nagpur Police ensured peaceful New Year celebrations in the Second Capital of the State.
Earlier, Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar had informed that 2,000 cops would guard Nagpur City during the New Year festivities. Special orders were issued for clubs, restaurants, and bars by Nagpur Police. Since the evening, the police presence on the streets was evident in Nagpur.
Speaking to Nagpur Today, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Traffic Chetna Tidke informed that, during the special drive on New Year’s Eve, Nagpur Traffic Police fined 770 vehicles for violating the Motor Vehicle Act. Cops also penalized 147 drivers who were found driving under the influence of liquor.
“With the New Year festivities in the city, Nagpur Police were on their toes to ensure the safety of citizens both on the roads and within the city boundaries. We erected various checkpoints, including drunken driving points across the Second Capital of the State. We found 147 people riding under the influence of liquor,” said the DCP.
