NIT’s Rs 902.56 crore budget for 2024-25 approved, thrust on development

Nagpur: The Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) on Monday approved Rs 902.56 crore budget for the year 2024-25 wherein main focus is on rolling out civic amenities to the tune of Rs 156 crore in 572/1,900 unauthorised layouts that have come up on the city fringes.

The Board of Trustees, at the meeting held at NIT Headquarters in Sadar, stamped their approval on the annual outlay for the year 2024-25 in which it carried forward capital and revenue reserves that remained unspent during the current financial year. The meeting was chaired by NIT Chairperson Manoj Kumar Suryawanshi. Among the three Trustees, only two, namely South Nagpur MLA Mohan Mate and Sandeep Itkelwar, attended the budget meeting.

Apart from them the ex-officio Members, including Pramod Gawande, Officiating Joint Director, Town Planning; Avinash Katade, General Manager, NIT; Prashant Bhandakar, Superintending Engineer; Avinash Gandhe, Executive Officer, Vilin Khadse, CAFO, Lalit Raut, Executive Engineer, and Rajesh Kathwate, Establishment Officer, were also present.

The total outlay of Rs 902.56 crore includes a capital deposit of Rs 466.06 crore and Rs 156.22 crore of revenue earnings, along with fixed deposits of Rs 58.61 crore. For the next year, the NIT Board has proposed a capital expenditure of Rs 645.04 crore while the revenue expenditure is pegged at Rs 156.66 crore while it expects advance receipt of Rs 81.11 crore. In all, the total amount earmarked for development works is Rs 882.81 crore.

The highest allocation of Rs. 356.57 crore is kept for carrying out work in Dalit populace localities, works from MLA Development Fund, from MPLAD, development of Islamic Cultural Centre, and work under Maharashtra Suvarna Jayanti Nagarotthan Mahabhiyan. As to establishment cost, Rs 92 crore have been estimated to be spent for providing arrears of 7th Pay Commission to staffers and retired employees and on other petty heads.

Similarly, Rs. 200 crore funds would be utilised for various civic amenities within Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) jurisdiction and for the same NIT is going to receive funds from Maharashtra Government. Through Maharashtra Gunthewari Development the NIT is expecting revenue of Rs. 66.50 crore while Rs. 85 crore will be utilised for undertaking works relating to construction of cement roads and asphalting of existing roads.

Sports Ground Development: The NIT Board has finalised a plan of Rs. 150 crore for development of sports facilities at its various open grounds under its jurisdiction. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for sports ground development will be submitted to Maharashtra Government to seek the funds. As of now Rs 3 crore are kept aside in the budget by NIT. Also a sports park is also going to be developed in the city.

The NIT has also proposed development of a swimming pool in the East Nagpur area of the city. The site for the tank is not yet identified but given the vast open land parcels available in the city, NIT should not find it difficult to get one for the project. The swimming tank will benefit the citizens as of late it is one of the best sports activities. The Board also approved Rs. 5 crore for development of Sports Complex in Ahuja Nagar in North Nagpur.

Similarly, a sum of Rs 356.57 crore received in the form of grants from State Government was also allocated for various ongoing works that include tourist facilities development at Tekdi Ganesh Temple, a 300 bed hospital at Wathoda, construction of a 7- storied administrative building for MahaJyoti and 12-storied training complex; development of Sports Complex at Harpur; renovation of Samadhi of Gond Raje Bakht Buland Shah; construction of OBC Samaj Bhavan building, Sant Savta Maharaj Sanskrutik Bhavan, e-library at East Nagpur.
