NIT’s Rs 927 crore budget for 2022-23, 52% higher than last year

The highest-ever outlay puts thrust on housing development and road works in Nagpur

Nagpur: The development agency Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) finalised its budget for year 2022-23 with the highest-ever outlay of Rs 927.75 crore with thrust on housing and road works. The allocation of NIT is a massive jump as during last year, the outlay was of Rs 606.96 crore.,The increase in financial allocation is over 52 per cent.

The Board of Trustees, during their meeting held on Wednesday, approved allocation of Rs 150 crore for Housing projects being undertaken by NIT for people from weaker sections of society. At the meeting held at NIT’s Headquarters under Manoj Kumar Suryavanshi, Chairman, NIT; MLA Vikas Thakre and Sandip Itkelwar, both trustees, along with Supriya Thul, Joint Director, Town Planning Department, Nishikant Suke General Manager, Lina Upadhye, Superintending Engineer, Anil Rathod, Executive Officer, Villin Khadse, Chief Accounts and Finance Officer, and other officials were present.

Briefing the meeting, officials said that Rs 35 crore were expected to be realised through rentals from properties of NIT. Also Rs 95 crore are expected under Maharashtra Gunthewari Development of which Rs 65 crore would be spent on various development works in 572 and 1,900 layouts. For the road development works, a sum of Rs 105 crore is going to be allocated. Several big roads in the city are owned by NIT and they are in bad shape owing to non-maintenance in the last two years during COVID-19 period.

Similarly, several unauthorised layouts are yet to get a road network. A sum of Rs 15 crore is earmarked for undertaking construction of two divisional offices of the NIT. The highest allocation of Rs 412.73 crore for the financial year 2022-23 is reserved for Dalit Vasti Sudhar Yojana, projects from MLA and MP Local Area Development Funds, e-Library at Manewada, Islamic Cultural Centre, Maharashtra Suvarna Jayanti Nagarotthan Maha Abhiyan etc. Similarly, Rs 96 crore is kept aside for payment of benefits of 7th Pay Commission to all office-bearers and employees and also to pensioners as per directives of the State Government.

For opening Jan Suvidha Kendra in the city, Rs 3 crore is provided while provision of Rs 5 crore is made for e-development of market at Ashirwad Nagar, Kalmana. At Kalamna, NIT is undertaking construction of a new wholesale market, including that for grocery traders as part of decongestion of Itwari markets. Also, Rs 15 crore is provided for sewerage treatment plant and laying of main sewage line in NIT area. Similarly, Rs 10 crore would be spent on development of playgrounds and Rs 5 crore for construction of new roads.
