Nagpur: Defending the action of suspension of two engineers of NMC’s Laxmi Nagar Zone, Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr Abhijeet Choudhari said that prima facie they were part of a field unit that has responsibility of ensuring proper and thorough implementation of public projects.
As to action against senior officials, he said if a probe reveals lapses on their part then they too can be hauled-up at a later stage. He was responding to queries during a media interaction held on Tuesday at Headquarters of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) at Civil Lines.

As to action against the involved contractor, Dr Choudhari stated that the first task is to get the work completed from the former as enlisted in the work order. Still after that if deficiencies remain then the firm can be black listed.
The case pertains to work allocated in South West Nagpur constituency for laying of new storm water drain line and other allied works. To a query, he said suspension is disciplinary action and the same cannot be done post completion of inquiry. Also he said, after suspension it was learnt that some of earlier bills were passed by other Junior Engineer and his role is under probe.
