NMC chief reviews arrangements for Dhammachakra Pravartan Din at Deekshabhoomi

Nagpur: For the Dhammachakra Pravartan Din celebration, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) makes various arrangements for the convenience of the millions of Buddhist followers visiting Deekshabhoomi. Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari on Thursday has directed the concerned authorities that all necessary preparations for these facilities be completed as soon as possible.

The Municipal Commissioner reviewed the arrangements at Deekshabhoomi in preparation for Dhammachakra Pravartan Din. The meeting, held in the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Administrative Building’s conference room at the NMC headquarters, was attended by Additional Commissioner Anchal Goyal, Additional Commissioner Ajay Charathankar, Deputy Commissioner Vijaya Bankar, Deputy Commissioners Prakash Varade, Milind Meshram, Dr. Gajendra Mahalle, Superintendent Engineer Manoj Talewar, Dr. Shweta Banerjee, Transport Manager Ganesh Rathod, Medical Health Officer Dr. Deepak Selokar, Chief Fire Officer B.P. Chandankhede, Assistant Commissioners Ashok Gharote and Pramod Wankhede, Garden Superintendent Amol Chaurpagar, and Executive Engineers Rajendra Rathod, Ravindra Bundhade, and Shrikant Waikar.

Every year, millions of Buddhist followers from across the country visit Deekshabhoomi in Nagpur for Dhammachakra Pravartan Din. To accommodate these visitors, the Municipal Commissioner instructed that all basic facilities be arranged from October 10 to 15. To prevent inconvenience and ensure prompt assistance, a control room will be established, cleanliness will be maintained throughout the area, electricity supply will be ensured, and drinking water, sanitation, and transportation services will be smoothly provided.

Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari directed the concerned officials to ensure proper planning for these arrangements. NMC will set up health check-up centres at four key points along the routes leading to Deekshabhoomi for the convenience of the followers. Additionally, 140 drinking water taps will be installed along the routes, and 900 temporary toilets will be arranged. Furthermore, there will be four mobile toilets available. A total of 664 sanitation workers will be deployed around the clock to maintain cleanliness throughout the Deekshabhoomi area.

For the accommodation of Buddhist followers, temporary lodging facilities will be set up at the Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) premises and the School for the Blind. In case of an emergency, municipal schools near Deekshabhoomi will also be prepared for accommodation. CCTV surveillance will cover the entire area, and NMC’s fire and emergency services team will be on standby for any emergency situations.

The transport department will arrange special buses from bus stations and railway stations to Deekshabhoomi, Dragon Palace in Kamptee, and other key locations. A temporary bus stop will also be set up at Kachipura Chowk by NMC’s Aapli Bus service. The Commissioner also directed that all potholes on the roads leading to Deekshabhoomi be filled and that any areas dug up for other works be immediately restored.

In particular, NMC’s control room, located next to the Lokshahir Annabhau Sathe Memorial in the Deekshabhoomi area, will be operational 24/7 to provide assistance and information about all arrangements. Additionally, fire brigade teams, boats, and the state disaster management team will be stationed at Ambazari Lake, where many followers visit for bathing, to ensure safety. The Commissioner also instructed that special care be taken to ensure that no gas cylinders or other flammable materials are used at any of the stalls set up around Deekshabhoomi.
