The Health Department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation has conducted a surprise inspection at Midas Multispeciality Hospital, Hotel Chidambara and Minerva Restaurant, all located at upscale Ramdaspeth commercial zone in Nagpur and caught the establishments erring blatantly in managing their waste. All the entities have been penalised for careless dumping of their waste. Apart from this Midas hospital has also been served with show cause in regard to cancelling its registration under Mumbai Nursing Home Act 1949.
Midas hospital was found to have been disposing its bio-medical waste at NMC’s garbage spot meant for dumping domestic waste. The officials have imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 upon the hospital administration apart from serving it the showcause notice. They have also instructed Maharashtra Pollution Control Board for further legal action in this regard.
Similarly, both Chidambara Hotel and Minerva Restaurant were penalised with Rs 50,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively for throwing the hotel waste in NMC’s sewerage chamber.
The inspection was conducted at the behest of Deputy Director, Health, Milind Ganveer while the NMC’s team was led by Ashok Urkude and Rajesh Gaidhane.
