Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has all geared up for immersion of idols on 9th and 10th day of Ganeshotsav in the city. The civic body has arranged for artificial tanks at various locations across the city to promote an eco-friendly Ganeshotsav.
Under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari and the leadership of Additional Commissioner Anchal Goyal, the Solid Waste Management Department has taken charge of the entire arrangement. As the festival reaches its ninth and tenth days, NMC is fully prepared for the immersion of Lord Ganesh idols, with 419 artificial tanks set up at 209 locations in the city.
According to Dr. Gajendra Mahalle, Head of the Solid Waste Management Department and Deputy Commissioner, thousands of Ganesh idols have already been immersed at various locations. Thanks to the administration’s efforts to encourage an eco-friendly Ganeshotsav, many citizens opted for clay idols this year. To protect the city’s lakes, NMC has provided artificial immersion tanks at different wards for household Ganesh idols. Large artificial tanks have been set up at Gandhi Sagar Lake and Sonegaon Lake, while idol immersion for Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandals has been arranged at Koradi.
In total, NMC’s Solid Waste Management Department has set up 419 immersion tanks for the convenience of devotees across the city. Additionally, there will be 331 tanks made of centring material, 31 rubber tanks, 32 pits, 3 concrete tanks, and 22 mobile tanks.
