Nagpur: To ensure prompt attention to complaints about choking of sewage and storm lines in the city, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has added three more suction machines. As announced by Municipal Commissioner Dr Abhijeet Chaudhari the other day, seven machines have been sought on urgent basis.

The aim is to suck out the muck and other solid material stuck in the sewage chambers and storm drains with an aim to ensure that water flow is not blocked. Of the four, three machines have reached NMC and same would be deployed in different parts of city as per need. Another suction machine will reach NMC in the next few days.

Earlier, each of the 10 administrative zones of NMC was having 1 jetting machine. In the year 2010, NMC invited tender for 2 suction machines of 3,000 litre capacity for the first time. In the year 2011-12, tender for 2 recyclers were called. The city was having 2 recyclers till 2018 which was later augmented to 5 by the year 2023. Apart from it, 3 small suction cum jetting machines were also hired by NMC for tackling complaints in narrow and congested lanes in the year 2024.

However, taking into consideration the heavy siltation after the rains and for giving respite to the people from accumulation of filthy water in their premises, Municipal Commissioner has decided to hire 3 big (10,000 litres) and 1 small ( 3,000 litres) suction cum jetting machines for the city. This implies that this week onwards there would be 21 such machines plying within the city.

The 11 vehicles would be provided to the zones as per schedule. The Municipal Commissioner has asked the zonal officers to use the machines judiciously and solve maximum number of complaints.
