NMC initiative to increase voting percentage under SVEEP programme

Nagpur: Under Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme, awareness was created for voter registration at Nagpur Municipal Corporation Headquarters. In the hall of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Administrative Building on Monday, hundreds of women took a pledge to increase the percentage of voting in upcoming Lok Sabha election.

In the program Deputy Commissioners Nirbhay Jain, Mahesh Dhamecha, Deputy Commissioner and Social Welfare Officer Dr. Ranjana Lade, Executive Engineer Alpana Patne, Education Officer Sadhana Sayam, Assistant Superintendent of S.P.V. Rajkumar Meshram, Public Relations Officer Manish Soni along with all the women workers were mainly present.

At the outset, Deputy Commissioner Mahesh Dhamecha informed about the SVEEP program. Dhamecha said that India is the largest democracy in the world, in which everyone should follow their rights and duties. In the background of the Lok Sabha election, the target has been set to increase the voting percentage in Nagpur, this time the target of voting is more than 75 percent in the Lok Sabha poll. For this “Mission Distinction” will be successfully implemented with the participation of all voters, Dhamecha said.

Deputy Commissioner and Social Welfare Officer Dr. Ranjana Lade urged the attendees to increase the percentage of voting. Also, taking a selfie at the selfie point installed in the headquarters, the attendees assured that they will create public awareness through this SVEEP voting literacy program.

Through SVEEP voting literacy program, voter awareness is being spread through all the zone offices of Laxminagar, Dharampeth, Hanuman Nagar, Dhantoli, Nehrunagar, Gandhibagh, Satranjipura, Lakadganj, Ashinagar and Mangalwari.

In order to create awareness about the importance of electoral participation, to empower women in the electoral process, voter awareness rallies are being conducted through various school students of the NMC. Essay and painting competitions are being conducted in various schools by the education department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation in relation to voter awareness.

Apart from this, rally banners and selfie points have also been set up in schools, and with the help of street plays, public awareness is being created so that citizens take selfies at the selfie points in the area and express their pride for being voters. Overall, awareness is being raised about voting everywhere through various ceremonies and campaigns organized in the city.
