NMC observes National Fire Service Day

Nagpur: Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr Abhijit Chaudhari on Sunday paid tributes to the martyred firefighters who have laid down their lives for safety of people of Nagpur and acclaimed the contribution of the Fire Department during natural and man-made disasters in Nagpur.

Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) observed the National Fire Service Day, where Dr Chaudhari was the chief guest. “The flood in Nag River on September 23 last year was a perfect example of the readiness of the Fire Department and the men who worked 24×7 to avoid any fire and emergency events in the city,” said Dr Chaudhari. “The fire department is always ready to handle any emergency in the city. Our firemen are well trained and NMC has state-of-the-art equipment to fight any kind of fire”, said the Municipal Commissioner.

Rajiv Gaikwad, Chief Engineer; Prakash Warade, Deputy Commissioner; Mahesh Dhamecha, Director, Information Technology Department; Dr Deepak Selokar, Medical Officer; and B P Chandankhede, Chief Fire Officer also shared the dais during the event.

Dr Chaudhari said that the civic body is planning to increase the number of fire stations in the city. Currently, there are nine fire stations in the city and soon the number will be increased to 22 stations. The number of high rises are increasing in the city and keeping this in mind the civic body is planning to purchase a 70-metre tall hydraulic platform and it will be implemented soon, said the Administrator.

Narendra Bawankar, Sunil Meshram, Tejinder Singh Renu, Gaurav Agrawal, Jayant Pathak and others were present during the programme. Manish Soni, PRO conducted the proceedings. B P Chandankhede proposed a vote of thanks.
