NMC raids electronic shop for LBT evasion

DSC_0256Nagpur: The Local Body Tax (LBT) department on Monday raided a white goods showroom sitated at Pande layout along Khamla road in the city for evading tax. The flying squad condcuted search and seized several documents related to tax evasion.

Sources informed that establishment Ice-O-Matic Services, an air-conditioned showroom owned by K L Jaggumon, has made purchases worth 3.16 crore in the financial year 2013-14 and 3.53 crore in the fiscal year 2014-15. But, the dealer paid less amount as LBT till date and has also not filed the annual return for 2013-14.

The LBT department has seized documents related with the sales and purchase made by the establishment. Now, the department will assess the tax liability of the showroom, which will also include penalty for not paying LBT on time. Thereafter, the tax will be recovered from the trader, official said.

The assistant commissioner of LBT department Milind Meshram said they will speed up tax recovery process and stern action will be taken against the defaulters.

LBT officer Venkaj Jichkar, assistant LBT officer Sanjay Dahikar, Jitendra Tomar, Shailesh Bharadwaj and others conducted search at the AC showroom.

Interestingly, tax recovery process usually goes slow in April. However, this time around, the LBT department has intensified search operations just after the start of new fiscal year.

Sources claimed that LBT department has intensified the recovery process considering the State government’s body to scrap the tax from August this year. The LBT department is in no mood to spare the defaulters.
