NMC supervisor caught with MD, suspended

Nagpur: Municipal Commissioner Dr Abhijeet Chaudhari has suspended Kapil Khobragade, a supervisor with Health Department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), after he was arrested by the sleuths of Crime Branch along with haul of MD.

A notification about suspension of Khobragade was issued by Additional Municipal Commissioner (City) mentioning registration of criminal offence against the employee. The suspension took effect from August 21, 2024, when Khobragade was arrested. He was working at the Nehru Nagar Zone as Senior Section Supervisor in the Health Department (M). Prior to this, Khobragade was also arrested on drug peddling charges. During the course of suspension, Khobragade will have to report to the Health Officer (Medical), NMC Administrative Office, Civil Lines.

Cops nab wanted drug-peddlers, seize MD powder

In a significant breakthrough, Sakkardara Police apprehended two wanted drug peddlers, one of whom was from Indore, Madhya Pradesh (MP), and seized mephedrone (MD) powder, four cell phones, and a Chevrolet Beat car (MH-35/P4536) collectively valued at Rs 9 lakh from their possession.

The accused have been identified as Pankaj Prabhakar Sathwane (29), a resident of Somwari Quarters, Nagpur, and Mohsin Ezaz Ahmed Khan (30), residing in Suryansh Executive Apartment, Alok Nagar, Indore (MP).

The operation unfolded on August 15, when police arrested Sathwane and confiscated over 34 grams of MD powder valued at Rs 3,42,500 from his residence. Upon interrogation, Sathwane revealed that he had procured the contraband from Khan in Indore. Acting on this information, a police team was dispatched to Indore, where they successfully apprehended Khan. During the arrest, police seized additional MD powder, four cell phones, and the vehicle, all worth Rs 5,57,500.

The accused have been charged under Sections 8(c), 22(b), and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The arrests were made under the leadership of Senior PI Anil Taksande, along with PSI Pradip Halve, PSI Vilas Gore, and the constabulary staff.
