Nagpur: Nagpurians will be burdened with more taxes in the coming financial year as the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) plans to levy three more taxes, thus effecting a hike in property tax. The Nagpur Vikas Aghadi (NVA) has proposed a hike in property tax citing City of Nagpur CNC Act.
The collection and recovery committee has also accepted the proposal. The proposal will now be tabled before the standing committee after which it will be tabled in the House and implemented from April 2015. Utmost secrecy is being maintained with respect to the percentage of hike, but if experts are to be believed, the hike will be a minimum 40 per cent or more.
In addition to this, three new taxes will be introduced in the property tax, namely sewage tax, water tax and road tax. The existing 1 per cent street light tax has been dropped from the property tax.
The new tax system is based on the annual lease value (ALV) and the tax will not be recovered on the basis of ready reckoner. However, the classification of the land will be based on ready reckoner.
Chairman of the collection and recovery committee Girish Deshmukh informed that the proposal of the new taxes must be announced and brought up in the House for discussion in February. He informed that the system has been made to benefit Nagpurians and will have additional concessions for landscape, use or veri-compost and other steps for environmental conservation.
The new proposals will be tabled in the House, which will have the right to undertake more research on it. The plan will be implemented only after the approval of the House.
In the previous version, the tenant was burdened with tax and the new tax system has made flexible provisions for the same.
