Nagpur: Acting tough to enforce fire safety regulations, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s Fire & Emergency Services Department will be sealing two gaming zones — V Play Gaming Zone in Manish Nagar and City Game Zone at MD Ginger Mall in Jaripatka on Wednesday, a report in a local daily said.

The action was initiated under the Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Act, 2006.

According to the report quoting Officiating Chief Fire Officer BP Chandankhede, Senior Police Inspectors from Jaripatka and Beltarodi police stations were informed about the action and asked to take strict action under the law in case of non-compliance of norms by the gaming zones.

The action was guided by Chandankhede and Civil Lines Fire Station Officer Tushar Barahate.

A senior fire official stated that the department will next target 27 rooftop restaurants across Nagpur. The proposal to seal rooftop restaurants has already been submitted to Municipal Commissioner Abhijeet Chaudhari.

The report further said that on July 2, the Fire Department declared both gaming zone premises unsafe after identifying firefighting shortcomings in the buildings. Despite this warning, V Play Gaming Zone, managed by Akshay Chavan and owned by Shyam Shivhare, and City Game Zone, managed by Prakash Sonule, failed to implement the required safety measures, said the report.

The action comes after the premises were deemed “extremely dangerous” due to non-compliance with fire prevention and life safety measures. Authorities, citing the urgent need to protect both persons and property, have instructed the immediate evacuation of the gaming zones.

With the occupants refusing to vacate the premises, the situation escalated.
