Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s Medical Health Department will soon operationalize four physiotherapy centres for the differently-abled and senior citizens over 60 years of age. These centres will provide all services at affordable rates to these groups.
Following the directives of Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari, physiotherapy centres will be established at Indira Gandhi Hospital, Gandhinagar, Pachpaoli Maternity Home, Sadar Diagnostic Centre, and Mahal Diagnostic Centre.
The Health Department is working under the leadership of Commissioner Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari and under the guidance of Additional Commissioner (City) Aanchal Goyal to operationalize these physiotherapy centres. Commissioner Dr. Chaudhari expressed that these centres will prove beneficial for the general public. Additional Commissioner Aanchal Goyal urged citizens to take full advantage of these services. The team of Medical Health Officer Dr. Deepak Selokar and Additional Medical Health Officer Dr. Narendra Bahirwar is working towards the successful launch of these centres.
Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Deepak Selokar explained that physiotherapy is a science-based healthcare service that helps people move and function normally. It can include various types of treatments. Like differently-abled individuals, elderly people, pregnant women, and patients with severe illnesses also require physiotherapy services to enhance their physical abilities.
Available services:
* Manual Therapy: Includes joint mobilization, massage, and stretching to help with pain, stiffness, and swelling.
* Exercise: Helps treat the root cause of the problem.
* Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) Therapy: A treatment method used in physiotherapy.
* Additionally, services such as magnetic therapy, dry needling, acupuncture, taping, hydrotherapy, diathermy, ultrasound, and phonophoresis will be provided.
Manpower: Recruitment has been conducted through the Municipal Corporation, and each centre will have one physiotherapist and an attendant.
Equipment: The Health Department will supply tools and devices such as shortwave diathermy, UV radiation, muscle stimulators, TENS, traction, ultrasound machines, etc.
These devices will help in improving brain balance and coordination, increasing muscle efficiency, treating various ailments, and addressing neurological conditions in children to support their growth and development.
14 new wellness centres to come up in city soon
Similarly, Nagpur Municipal Corporation will be opening 14 new Ayushyman Aarogya Mandir (Urban Health and Wellness Centres) in addition to existing 40 centres in the city. Between October 2023 and August 2024 more than one lakh patients, including 4,453 pregnant women, have been benefited from the Ayushyman Aarogya Mandir free of charge.
A total of 113 Aarogya Mandirs are sanctioned for Nagpur Municipal Corporation of which 40 are operational. The 14 new Aarogya Mandirs are under development and will be available to the public soon. Apart from these, additional eight municipal properties are proposed to be converted into Aarogya Mandirs in near future.
Various services available free of charge at Aarogya Mandir include pregnancy and childbirth care; neonatal and infant health care (Immunization); child and adolescent health services; family planning; management of contagious diseases with National health programmes; control and management of non-contagious diseases; screening of ENT problems; basic oral health care; geriatric and palliative health care; and emergency services and other facilities.
