Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has started the cleanliness drive to free Nag Nadi, Pivli Nadi and Pohra Nadi of any blockages and encroachments before monsoon. NMC Commissioner Dr Abhijit Chaudhari reviewed the cleanliness works on Friday and said that the collapsed boundary walls of Nag Nadi would also be repaired during the drive.
Several low lying areas in Nagpur city were flooded in September 2023. The incident also weakened the boundary walls of Nag Nadi at multiple places resulting into their collapse. Therefore, NMC has secured additional funds from the District Planning and Development Committee (DPDC) for the repair works.
In addition, a proposal for more funds has also been sent to the Government of Maharashtra, which is in the final stage of approval, Chaudhari said. NMC has pushed in a total of 6 poclain machines — one big and five small — for the work under which silt and soil will be removed and the river bed will be deepened wherever necessary. The cleanliness work has been implemented simultaneously at Ambazari, Ashok Chowk, Pardi flyover, Gorewada area and Makapur area. The three rivers of Nagpur, Nag Nadi which is 16.58 km in length, Pili Nadi – 17.42 km and Pohra River -15.17 km has around 232 drains located at Hattinala, Gaddigodaam, Balabhaupeth, Boriyapura, Dobinagar, Lakdipul, Takiya, Narendra Nagar, and Buradnala that will be cleared with the help of machines and manual cleaning.
Chaudhari inspected the drive at Ambazari Ghat, Ashok Square, Pardi Square. Manoj Talewar, Vijay Gurubakshani, Sachin Rakshamwar, Sanjay Mate, Devendra Bhowte, Manohar Rathod, Milind Gawarke, Santosh Migilwar, Suresh Khare, Pramod Atram were present.
