Milind Meshram, Deputy Commissioner (Revenue), NMC, said the GeoCivic Property Tax Management System ensures hassle free property tax demand generation as well as payment. Citizens can pay their tax demand through on-line channels eliminating the need to stand in queues at NMC offices. After entering the Unique Property ID one can get to know the current year tax demand. Of the two types of tax assessment system-Capital based and Taxable Value, NMC has adopted the latter one.
A property tax is assessed calculating the expected monthly and annual rental and the same depends upon the location, usage, type of construction, age of building etc. The data is fed in GeoCivic Property Tax Management System and each of the properties is Geo-enabled and uploaded on citizens portal. The NMC has made available 11 services related to Property Tax online under Maharashtra Service Guarantee Act with an aim to promote Digital Enablement.
The digital move has increased the tax collection by 15 percent in the year 2022-23 as compared to the year 2021-22. An analysis of the data reveals that about 20 percent of taxpayers have chosen to utilise online media for tax payment.
