Nagpur: The great flip-flop continues exposing the mismanagement on the part of MSEDCL. After “assuring” there will be no load-shedding in Nagpur, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) bosses now say they managed to stave off fears of load-shedding, at least for next week.

According to reports, MSEDCL has tied-up for extra power to meet the surge in demand. The State-run utility said apart from increase in generation by MahaGenco and Adani, they are going to get power from two other sources. The Discom is going to source 240 MW of power from the Sai Wardha plant that is in Chandrapur district. Similarly, about 213 MW is being sought from the Uran gas plant that is now on stream following arrangement of gas. Also from Tata Power’s CGPL plant in Gujarat, of the contracted 760 MW, the balance supply of 130 MW has also started.

According to reports, MSEDCL did not have to enforce load shedding in any part of the State due to proper balancing of the demand. MSEDCL said nearly 10 States are facing issues of power shortage due to dip in generation, mostly a result of short coal supply from the coalfields within the country. These States are Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand where 10 to 15 percent load shedding is currently on due to demand supply gap. But despite the massive rise in power demand in the State, MSEDCL has put up quite a good show and ensured that citizens are spared the trouble.

On Saturday the power demand in the State was 24,877 MW, excluding Mumbai. MSEDCL sourced 7380 MW from MahaGenco, 6102 MW from Central pool, 213 from Uran, 1134 from Koyna Hydro project, CGPL-622 MW, 200 MW from GMR, 2951 from Adani, 1200 from Ratan India, 426 from Power Exchange, 240 from Sai Wardha, and 1226 from Solar project outside the State. Apart from that 915 MW was tapped from State’s solar projects, 85 MW from wind power, 996 MW from Co-generation, 227 from Minor Hydel and other projects and 424 from Time Market.

The war room set-up at Mumbai headquarters of MSEDCL is keeping watch on fluctuating power demand and making minute adjustments on time to ensure that load shedding is avoided.
