Nagpur: In a major success, the Crime Branch of Nagpur Police has arrested a notorious drug trafficker who was distributing drugs to young people in various cafes across the city.
The accused, identified as Sonu alias Bhima Rajesh Ugreja (21), was arrested in Ajni area. However, his partner, Pankaj Sarthawane, managed to evade arrest.
According to police, Sarthawane is the mastermind of the entire drug trafficking network. Ugreja, acting on Sarthawane’s instructions, was peddling drugs in cafes. Sarthawane would take orders from customers and direct Ugreja to deliver the drugs to various cafes and locations within city limits.
Acting on a tip-off, the police intercepted Ugreja, who was planning to deliver a large batch of drugs at a restaurant on Wardha Road. Ugreja was arrested with 106 grams of Mephedrone (MD) powder while passing through Chimni Square in a Swift Dzire car. Police stated that Ugreja is a notorious criminal with previous offences including drug trafficking and robbery. Additionally, his brother is implicated in a murder case.
Currently, the police are intensifying efforts to apprehend Sarthawane, who managed to escape after Ugreja’s arrest. The arrest was made by Woman Police Inspector (WPI) Shubhangi Deshmukh, API Gajanan Chambhare, and staff Rajesh Tiwar, Mahendra Sadmake, Shailesh Jambhulkar, Deepak Chole, Arjun Yadav, Dinesh Dawre, Sandip Changole, Sunil Kuwar, Sandip Pande and Pravin Chavan.
