Notorious robber nabbed by Tehsil cops, 19 cases of chain-snatching solved

Nagpur: Tehsil Police rounded up a notorious robber involved in as many as 19 cases of chain-snatching and thefts in Nagpur, Chandrapur and Bhandara. Cops seized a gold mangalsutra worth Rs 30,000 and a Honda Passion Pro motorcycle from his possession.

The accused, Shahid Ali Gulam Ali Raza (30) is a resident of New Yerkheda, opposite Gram Panchayat Office, New Kamptee. Accused Shahid Ali had looted a gold mangalsutra worth Rs 30,000 from Jyoti Sujay Pelagade (42), a resident of Plot No 45, New Amar Nagar, Manewada, when she was returning home with her family after shopping at Gandhibagh Market around 9.15 pm on May 1. On the road connecting Nanga Putla Chowk and Bhavsar Chowk , accused Shahid Ali came on a motorcycle (MH-49/V-5313) and snatched the mangalsutra from Jyoti’s neck and sped away.

Similarly, accused Shahid Ali had committed several robberies and thefts in Pachpaoli, Mankapur, Sitabuldi, Shanti Nagar, and Kamptee and Tehsil Police Station areas in the city. Similarly, he was involved in robberies in Chandrapur city and Bhandara. The bike used by the accused for committing the crimes was stolen from Sitabuldi. He was absconding for the past four months after attacking a man and his brother with a knife in the New Kamptee area.

The arrest was made Senior PI Trupti Sonwane, PSI P Bhawal, PSI S Maske, HC Laxman Shende, NPCs Kishor Garware and Nazir Shaikh, constables Pankaj Dabre and Yunus Khan under the supervision of CP Amitesh Kumar, Additional CP (North Region) Navinchandra Reddy, DCP (Zone-III) Gajanan Rajmane and ACP Sanjay Surve.
